“Be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.”

1 Corinthians 15:58b NLT

Leading the Team

Thank you so much for your fervent prayers for us and the ministry. In our last newsletter we asked for prayer for wisdom as we were asked to co-lead the incoming team next year. After sending that, our current leaders then asked us if we would consider taking the role of team leaders completely. This would give our direct leaders a chance to invest more of their focus into expanding “Teach with Cru”—the wing we fall under, which connects missions workers directly to a school as an employee, but with the greater goal of evangelizing and ministering to students and staff. Our leaders have developed this mission strategy within Cru, and US leadership has given them a lot of freedom to help expand it globally.

Dinner with our Teach with Cru team. What a great night! Our final event as a complete team, before people start to disperse for the summer. When we return for the fall semester, five of these lovely individuals will be gone, and we will have two new additions.

After much discussion, questions answered, conversations with others (in and out of Cru), and lots of prayer, we have officially accepted the position. Big picture, not too much will change for us, and we will continue in our other ministry. But on a smaller scale, this gives us greater opportunity to disciple incoming interns and others on our team. It also allows us access to some additional training within our organization that we think will be invaluable for our ministry on the field long-term.

At this time our commitment as team leaders is for one year, beginning at the end of July. During the year we will organize orientation, host weekly team meetings and trainings, facilitate team retreat and debrief at the end of the year, engage in weekly discipleship with the new interns, and in general, be available to our team as different physical, spiritual, and emotional needs arise throughout the year. This year several of the interns will be returning to the US, as they have fulfilled their two-year internship. We have one new staff team-member joining that is already on the ground here, and another intern that is coming from the US in July, as well as five other staff and one intern that will stay on this coming year. Additionally, we have one family working through support-raising, and they are hoping to join us in the fall or winter. Please continue to pray for us. We want to steward this time well and be an encouragement to our team, both in their involvement at GIS, but more importantly, to encourage them in their walks with the Lord.

Stateside for the Summer

We are so excited to share with you all that we will be in the USA for June and most of July. We are staying in northern Kentucky for about half of that time, but we will also be traveling to more than ten other states to connect with friends and family. We would love to see as many of you as possible. Hit "reply" and let us know that you’d like to get together.

Over "Songkran" break (Thai New Year), we took our kids to an interactive art museum. The kids had a lot of fun figuring out how to pose just right to be a part of the artwork. This was in the café at the end of the tour.

Additional Highlights

The GIS communications department (L-R: Vandenn, Taetae, Butter, Belle, Pupae, and Nick) went out to lunch to celebrate the end of the school year. Next year Nick will serve as Interim Communications Director while Vandenn is in the US for first semester. Fun fact: Traci taught Butter and Belle at GIS when they were in the 5th grade.
As part of our team debrief, we went to a Thai cooking school where we practiced making several authentic Thai dishes. While Traci already makes a lot of Thai food herself, it was fun to see the team's excitement as they learned.
Nick with his 11th grade advisory boys--Nick meets with these same students twice a week to help encourage them spiritually and guide them through life. Nick will remain their advisor through their senior year.
